Posts might be a little on the short side around here this week as I’m switching some stuff up. I’m completely switching over to a self-hosted WordPress account instead of the WordPress hosted version.

In the meantime I’ll leave you with this sweet little lady from the country.

Just to warn you this will probably be a super boring post. I just needed to share.

As usual, I must start this post with some back story:

I was always pretty athletic in high school – I played sports year round. I wouldn’t say I was one of the best athletes, but not necessarily the worst one either. I was just average.

After high school I devoted to never play a competitive sport again. I think mostly because after a while it wasn’t as fun for me and I overloaded myself with too many extracurricular activities. Although I didn’t want to do competitive sports, I was determined not to gain the dreaded freshman 15 that I was warned about. I went to the gym and did all kinds of random stuff and it worked.

I ended up meeting a girl who was really into yoga. She started getting me into it and I loved it. So for the most part, I didn’t really do much cardio.

To speed up the story… I met my (now) husband, we moved in together, I stopped exercising for a while. I’m fortunate enough to have a good metabolism but also a good sense in what is good and bad to eat, as well as portion control. So during that non-exercise period (about a year), I didn’t really gain a lot of fat weight but just got softer.

I started exercising again but just normal stuff, nothing too strenuous. Somewhere in there I decided to do a 5 mile race (having not run in for-ev-er) in Portland to keep myself busy while my husband was doing a marathon. This “simple” 5 mile race caused me several weeks of physical therapy where I learned some good info about running form and stretching.

Fast forward some more…. engagement….. wedding planning… yadayadayada. Now I’m a bridesmaid in Heather’s wedding. Hmmm. My back looks a little squishy so I should probably boost up the cardio and weights.

It was the start of shaping up for Heather’s wedding (as well as my own) that has got me where I am now. I started to really boost up the workouts. I was finally burning some good calories to get me back to where I wanted to be.

During all of that I picked up running. I’ve never been much of a runner. I remember 1 mile being soooooo far.

So here we are today (to finally get passed my rambling and to the point). I now consider myself a runner. I might not be a long distance runner (yet), but I really feel that I’m FINALLY getting to where I want to be with it. I struggled at about a mile and a half for a long time because my knees would always stop me. It was a really good day if I could make it to 2 miles without stopping or pain. Or who knows, maybe it was a mental block. Theses boundaries always made me feel like my body wasn’t physically able to do very much distance.

It takes most people only a couple months to get up to 5 miles comfortably. It’s taken me a good year(ish) to even get close and now I feel that I’m rapidly taking off. It’s a great feeling and I really felt the need to share. As a non-runner, I feel like I can call myself a runner without feeling silly.

Here is a pretty picture as a reward for reading all of this. I really had to dig through my pictures to find one that you haven’t seen already. Especially because I’m sure the Europe pictures are getting old. Here’s a photo to make you say awwwww. It’s an oldie but goodie.

I don’t care what anyone says, I know that I’m going to be THE cool aunt. My sister is nearing the end of her pregnancy. She still has about 7 weeks left, but still toward the end of the race.

My mom and I threw her a baby shower on the 10th. It was the first one that either of us had ever thrown, but it turned out really cute. Here are some of the details from the shower before anyone made it in.

Those are little binkies that my mom made. She used jelly beans and lifesavers.

Here’s a closer shot of the binkie.

This was my idea and I’m very proud of it 🙂

Here’s a photo my (not-pregnant) sister took of my (pregnant) sister and some of her old high school friends. Yes, I find it necessary to distinguish which sister did what.

Hopefully next time you hear about the baby she will be on the outside.

I’ll tell you what. If you’re wanting to dive into the blog world, the first way to do it is to commit to a 365 project. Committing to blog every single day has really made me become more creative. My husband doesn’t even ask any questions when I ask if I can photograph something that might seem weird to him.

This project has made me pull out my camera more. I take pictures of more random stuff because I’m excited to blog about it. Yesterday’s post is a prime example of that.

Here is a couple more random photos.

You see, my youngest sister is on a softball team. Each year they sell these pastries for about $10 each. They’re frozen and all you have to do is pull it out, let it rise, and bake it. My husband LOVES them but they’re not so good on the gut. A week or so ago I came home to the delicious smell of pastries. My husband had cooked one of them and it was so pretty that I snapped a couple photos.

Here is one using the flash.

This one is using natural light from the window around sunset.

When you are a photographer, you start to slowly disappear from photos. Since I’m usually the person behind the camera I started to notice that my presence was slowly fading during family events and social gatherings. After that I decided that I didn’t want to completely disappear.  Now I’ll try to jump in a photo when I can so that there is proof that I was there! Now I can get my husband or sister to snap a shot of me with my camera every now and then.

Today at my sister’s baby shower, I grabbed that opportunity to have my (non-pregnant) sister to take a picture of me. This is one of my few self portraits. I’m a little bummed I was squinting, but nonetheless it is a self portrait.
